I thought I'd give this "ASEM bait" (Accidentally Sent E-Mail) thing a try, which is apparently gaining popularity among the scambaiting community. I haven't read anyone's ASEM bait yet, but it seemed like a logical approach to me to send the "accidently sent e-mail" below to the 100+ scammers (this is the average amount I receive daily) that wrote me one day:

Dear Mr. Sola Oni,

Compliments of the day. I am sorry for the delay in getting the information you need to collect the money for the demurrage fee at the security company, but I had some trouble getting the full amount of $2,500. I have transferred the full amount via MoneyGram today to be collected by Oba Otudeko in Lagos as you had instructed me. Here is the information he will need to collect it:

MoneyGram Reference Number: 78522135
Test question: What is the name of your wife?
Test answer: Ndi

Please let me know immediately what the next step is to proceed with the transfer of the money to my account here in Canada. Thank you very much and I shall look forward to your reply.

This proved to be a much more effective approach to pissing off scammers in volume by getting them to go to the bank to collect bogus money transfers in droves, rather than spending a bunch of time on one or even a few at a time and working your way through correspondence over time to get to the money transfer stage. Get 'em going to the bank to collect immediately, and in large volumes daily - I love it! I made a point of using MoneyGram because they don't have online tracking available at their web site like Western Union does, so they actually have to go to a bank before finding out the money transfer doesn't exist. This probably explains why so many of them insisted on me resending the money through Western Union afterwards, claiming that it's easier and faster than MoneyGram.

I was a bit surprised by how many of them actually created new e-mail accounts in the name of the person in my ASEM bait letter. From this day alone the following 12 accounts were created:

It was also interesting how three of them insisted that I not respond to any e-mails regarding this matter unless it included a certain code word for security reasons. Or in other words, so that I don't respond to the real Mr. Sola Oni anymore but only to them. The code words used were: "CODE 222", "JESUS CHRIST" and "God is good".

Nothing worthwhile posting here though...well, except for this prick:
